The Wild Yak in Nepal

The Wild Yak (Bos mutus) is the largest and very charismatic ungulate of the high altitudes. It plays an important role in the local Buddhist traditions. The Himalayan Wolves Project team was involved in the rediscovery of this species in Nepal in 2014. Since then the interest for the Wild Yak in Nepal has not died. The team’s photograph made it onto the latest Nepalese 5 Rupee banknote, which represents an immense honour for the team. Since the rediscovery, Naresh Kusi has been leading in the Wild Yak research in Nepal. He has recently published two wonderful educational fables that touch the hearts and which he is now distributing in the local Buddhist communities.
